House Republicans began taking a key procedural vote on President Trump's massive domestic policy bill late Wednesday evening, after scrambling for hours to shore up support ahead of a self-imposed July 4 deadline to get the bill to the president's desk.

Rep. Don Bacon defended Trump's $4 trillion tax bill, arguing its middle-class benefits while addressing GOP concerns over Medicaid cuts and mounting deficit fears.

The Tax Policy Center, which provides nonpartisan analysis of tax and budget policy, projected the bill would result next year in a $150 tax break for the lowest quintile of Americans, a $1,750 tax cut for the middle quintile, and a $10,950 tax cut for the top quintile. That’s compared to what they’d face if the 2017 tax cuts expired.
