A second winter storm in as many days is slamming parts of the Midwest before rolling toward the East Coast. Major travel disruptions are likely.

Storm will arrive across the Beehive state Thursday midday into Thursday afternoon. This will bring first a round of snow for most of Utah, with a rain/snow mix for St. George.

The storm will impact about 200,000 square miles with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in some areas. And more winter weather arrives midweek.

Around 2:30 p.m., some snow was showing up on weather radar in the Garden State, but a dry layer of air in the lower atmosphere was causing the snow to evaporate before reaching the ground. That’s a phenomenon known as virga.

As the Mid-Atlantic digs out from a snowstorm, a new winter storm is underway in the Plains that will move through the Midwest before slamming the East Coast.
