Matt Lanza, meteorologist with Space City Weather, reported that this weekend's storm pattern is unusual for August. Instead of typical sea breeze storms rolling in from the Gulf, these storms are expected to form north of Houston and drift southward.

Storms pummeled the Northeast on Thursday, with states of emergency declared for New York City and parts of New Jersey. Torrential rain and thunderstorms swept through the region, prompting flash flood alerts and causing widespread disruption to transport services.
