Donald Trump said Ukraine should make a deal to end the war because "Russia is a very big power, and they're not", after hosting a summit where Vladimir Putin was reported to have demanded more Ukrainian land.
The net effect of the Alaska summit was to give President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia a free pass to continue his war against his neighbor indefinitely without further penalty, pending talks on a broader peace deal.
EXCLUSIVE: First Lady Melania Trump wrote a “peace letter" to Russian President Vladimir Putin telling him “it is time" to protect children and future generations around the globe, Fox News Digital has learned.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky says he has spoken with US President Donald Trump, as well as other world leaders, following Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Zelensky has also confirmed that he will meet with Trump in Washington on Monday.
The meeting represented a diplomatic victory for Putin after Western leaders ostracized him at the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Just a week earlier, Trump was threatening him with new sanctions.
The summit comes after a string of deals the White House said Trump has helped broker globally that should earn him something he has long desired -- a Nobel Peace Prize.
