The Boston Bruins not only lost a fifth straight game Thursday night, but the team also lost young forward Matt Poitras to a scary injury.

The Bruins lost Matt Poitras to injury on Thursday after he slammed into an opening on the New York Islanders' bench.

New York’s Brock Nelson shoved him toward the boards at the Islander bench. However, the door was open and Poitras smashed chest first into the opening.

Ilya Sorokin stopped 38 shots and Alexander Romanov and Kyle Palmieri scored to lead the New York Islanders to a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins.

But it did keep the Islanders’ faint hopes alive as they held on for 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night at TD Garden to snap a four-game losing streak. Importantly, goalie Ilya Sorokin was markedly sharper and more aggressive than in Tuesday night’s 5-1 loss to the Rangers at UBS Arena — a game in which the Islanders felt they were the better team but could not keep their rivals from consistently crowding the crease.
