CINCINNATI — The Bearcats community has heavy hearts this week, amidst news that former UC wide receiver and longtime football color commentator Jim Kelly Jr. has passed away following a battle with cancer.

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Cincinnati Athletics mourns the passing of UC Hall of Famer Jim Kelly Jr. He died surrounded by his family on Sunday night. A member of the James P. Kelly Hall of Fame, he was the Bearcats’ leading receiver from 1973-75 and served as a color analyst for Cincinnati football’s official radio broadcast for 35 years.

Jim Kelly Jr. died Monday, Oct. 13, at age 72 after a bout with cancer that affected him much of the past two seasons. His celebratory voice in the radio booth screaming "Yes!" or "How sweet it is!" after a victory over rival Miami University can still be heard by diehard UC fans.

University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer Jim Kelly Jr. has died, according to the university. The school says he died surrounded by his family on Sunday night.

The UCF Knights will take on the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday at Nippert Stadium in what should be an exciting college football matchup.
