G raham Platner, a military veteran and oysterman from a small town near Maine's Acadia National Park, will run for U.S. Senate as a Democrat, he announced on Tuesday, in an effort to oust Republican Susan Collins, the five-term senator who is expected to run for reelection next year.

Platner is the latest Democrat to announce his candidacy in the 2026 senate race against the incumbent Collins. Others include Jordan Woods, the former chief of staff to then-Rep. Katie Porter, and David Costello, who ran against Maine Independent Sen. Angus King in 2024.

Platner, a Democrat who served as a Marine in Iraq and the Army in Afghanistan, says the "oligarchy is the enemy."
