A fire at a chemical factory in southern India on Monday led to the death of 40 people and left over 33 injured, Sigachi Industries said on Wednesday. Operations at the plant will remain suspended for approximately 90 days,

The death toll from the explosion and fire at Sigachi Industries’ SIGC.NS chemical factory in southern India has risen to at least 39, officials said on Tuesday, forcing the supplier of pharma products to shut operations for 90 days.

The whole structure of the factory has collapsed. Fire has been doused, and we hope to finish removing the debris in the next few hours,” the fire services director said.
