Mariners, Kyle Schwarber and Philadelphia Phillies
Digest more
It's hard to believe that it's been a decade since current Philadelphia Phillies star Kyle Schwarber burst onto the scene in the playoffs of his rookie year in 2025 when he set a Chicago Cubs postseason record for most home runs in a single playoff run.
Realmuto launched a two-run homer in the eighth inning Tuesday, snapping a 4-4 tie and providing the winning runs as the Phillies captured the series. All that remained after the homer was for closer Jhoan Duran to enter to his anticipated light show and blow away the Mariners with a 102-mph fastball and 100-mph splinker.
The homer came in the Phillies' 126th game of the season. That's the same number of games it took Howard to get to 44 homers in 2006, per MLB Network's Sarah Langs. It ties the franchise record. Mike Schmidt's best total through 126 games was 39 in 1979.
Kyle Schwarber hit his National league-leading 44th home run of the season against the Mariners. Schwarber’s latest home run set a Phillies' record.
The Philadelphia Phillies will be without star pitcher Zack Wheeler indefinitely, but the righty's health comes first.
