Republican U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski on Thursday voted against confirming Kash Patel as President Donald Trump’s pick for FBI director. Patel was confirmed by the Republican-majority Senate in a 51-49 vote. Murkowski and Sen. Susan Collins of Maine were the only GOP members to oppose Patel’s confirmation.

The Senate narrowly confirmed Kash Patel, a Trump loyalist and a critic of the FBI, as the bureau’s director in a 51-49 vote on Thursday afternoon. Republican Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) joined all Democrats in opposition. Each of the past three FBI directors garnered the votes of at least 92 senators.

Washington – Kash Patel was sworn in Friday as the FBI director, calling the opportunity to lead the nation's premier federal law enforcement agency the “greatest honor” of his life.
