The Boston Bruins lost their fifth game in a row Thursday, falling to the New York Islanders 2-1. Captain Brad Marchand shared some blunt honesty after the game, Matt Poitras got hurt, and David Pastrnak extended his point streak to 16 games.

But winger David Pastrnak gave the Bruins much-needed life, cutting the deficit to one with what seemed like a pass toward the net that found its way in from a tough angle. Center Pavel Zacha and defenseman Parker Wotherspoon picked up assists on the play, but the focus remained on Pastrnak.

Importantly, goalie Ilya Sorokin was markedly sharper and more aggressive than in Tuesday night’s 5-1 loss to the Rangers at UBS Arena — a game in which the Islanders felt they were the better team but could not keep their rivals from consistently crowding the crease. Sorokin finished with 38 saves.
