The screenplay of the latest movie in the MCU tries to be too many things to too many prior adventures, but at its core is a resonant story about Black heroism.

“Captain America: Brave New World” isn’t impressing critics. This new Marvel movie comes to theaters Friday and is meant to be Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) first full debut as Captain America. The hope was that this would be a great start to a new era of Marvel.

Mackie's slyly dogged Captain America has less superpower than his predecessor, and so does this movie. But it does wriggle out of superhero fatigue.
