The idea is straight out of science fiction. It may be too far-fetched to work, but given Altman’s involvement, it’s something worth paying attention to.

At a buzzy event in San Francisco, World announced a series of Apple-like stores, a partnership with dating giant Match Group, and a new mini gadget to scan your eyeballs.

World is opening six U.S. retail locations for eyeball scans: Austin, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Nashville, Miami and San Francisco. The Orb, a spherical biometric device, scans your face and iris, then creates and stores a unique "IrisCode" for you verifying that you're a human.
