Today, though, much of Michigan will still see some lake-effect snow. It’s forecast to be heavy in a few spots across the state, with the very southwest corner of Michigan under a Winter Weather Advisory that could bring up to 5 inches of snow. A couple areas of the Upper Peninsula are also in the 3 to 6-inch snow forecast zone.
On Thursday at 7:50 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning in effect until Friday at 10 a.m. for Southern Erie.
A widespread 1-2 inches of snow fell last night across Indiana, but a heavy band hit the west and south side of Indianapolis with 3-4"+ in spots.
Snow will first start in our northwest spots like Houghton Lake, Harrison, and Clare as it migrates in from the west. Starting time is around 6 AM. As this steady snow moves in, roads will turn slick up north. We expect main roads to be more slushy, but it should accumulate easier on unpaved roads.
System snow spreads in later Saturday night before the lakeshore sees lake-effect snow heading into Sunday afternoon. Snow totals will stay between 2-4" area wide.
Lake-effect snow is most common near the Great Lakes, but while rare in North Texas, it can happen here too. Lake-effect snow was expected to be possible in areas south and southeast of the larger North Texas lakes, such as Lake Lewisville or Lake Ray Hubbard.

Lake effect snow has been pouring in from as far as Lake Superior, more than 600 miles away. Central New York is also getting snow from lakes Michigan, Huron and Ontario in what meteorologists call a multi-lake connection.
