After meeting with Boston Red Sox principal owner John Henry, Rafael Devers remained at designated hitter for Friday night's road game against the Kansas City Royals. Devers, a three-time All-Star at third base,

Henry was accompanied by Craig Breslow and team president Sam Kennedy. But Henry alone sat with Devers and manager Alex Cora in the visiting manager’s office at Kauffman Stadium.

Devers said Red Sox management approached him about filling in at first base in the wake of Triston Casas' season-ending injury.
