The monthlong celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride is reaching its rainbow-laden crescendo as New York and other major cities around the world host major parades and marches.

Organizers say this year’s events are taking a more defiant stance than in previous years in the face of rollbacks of LGBTQ friendly policies.

In New York City, large throngs of people celebrated as the parade went down Fifth Avenue to downtown. Many of them also demonstrated against President Trump's policies targeting transgender people.

San Francisco Pride is one of the largest gatherings of LGBTQ+ people in the United States. For over 50 years, the parade has fostered community and advocated for equality. In 1985, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Day Parade featured drag performers, square dancers and cheerleaders.

Thousands of New Yorkers took to the streets Sunday for the city's annual Pride parade. Colorful floats, costumes and performances highlighted the annual New York City tradition.
