Check out this brightly colored Bolete demonstrating some interesting chemistry. As far as I can tell, this is #Lanmaopseudosensibilis, formerly known as #Boletuspseudosensibilis. This is a mycorrhizal Bolete that associates with oaks in upland hardwood forests. Found one of my favorite edible mushrooms, a Butter Bolete (Butyriboletus autumniregius). It is a mycorrhizal species that associates with hardwoods and mixed conifers in the California coast. It has a reddish/pink cap (fades brown), yellow pores that stain instantly blue when injured, and an olive brown spore print.
