Japanese Umbrella Pine is endemic to Japan and the surrounding islands. It is the only member in its genus and is considered a living fossil similar to Gingko. It is a very slow growing ornamental conifer, easily recognized by its soft and glossy foliage arranged in a radial pattern (similar to spokes of umbrella). Sciadopitys verticillata prefers average to moist, rich, slightly acidic soils. Our 30 year old tree has reached the height of 20 feet, but we will have to stick around for another 50
