RIP Chris Nicholl | Football in the 70s and 80s

A two-time promotion and League Cup winner – Chris Nicholl's achievements in claret and blue will never be forgotten. He was a dominant figure at the heart of the Aston Villa defence for over five seasons, making 252 appearances and scoring 20 goals. Rest in peace, Chris. | Aston Villa FC

RIP Chris Nicholl. He was aged 77. The Villa centre-back was best remembered by Villans for his rocket finish, when captain, in the second reply of a marathon League Cup final against Everton in 1977, that Villa finally won 3-2. A year earlier, the Northern Ireland international also managed to score all four goals in Villa's 2-2 draw against Leicester City. Crazy but true.
